New Week, Same AI?

materialfuture.substack.com

Nothing Much Last Week

I’m working on new music and new audio/visual products. My new mixtape/release comes out mid-March on all streaming platforms and will be the last release from my “vault” of songs I’ve been slowly releasing since 2020, so everything past this release will be fresh songs with a new feel to them. Speaking of which I’m trying out some different video content for my next few singles that hopefully capture the music better. I didn’t do a great job hyping up Mountains like I had wanted but that I think was for the better. My next album will be a new direction for me as an artist and visually should represent that.

Aside from music, I’m releasing a small collection of AI-Assisted art that I then modified to be more inline with what I want. I created over 50+ pieces and have narrowed the final selection down to about 5. I’m listing these on Exchange.Art so it’s easy to buy. That said, if you do buy one of my NFTs you will be on a list for Airdropped pieces of WIP art or music. That and if you purchase them you’re directly supporting me with little to no gas fees (usually <.1 cent per transaction).

I’ve been utilizing Twitter and Instagram as of late as it seems like that’s the best way to share information about projects I’m working on rather than word-of-mouth. That said, the highest ranking sources I get are from my emails or from direct links I send to friends and family, so I honestly don’t know. I’ve been using the internet long enough to know that no one really cares and that it’s mostly when you’re big do people care, especially so when you fail.

RTX Super Resolution out now for 40 and 30 series cards

RTX Super Resolution could change gaming and watching content for a lot of people. This technology was first available in the Nvidia Shield allowing users to upscale their HD content to 4k seamlessly both for movie/tv streaming and for cloud/network game streaming. Now we can see this content move to PC and allow standard content in the browser to be upscaled. This means people with slower connections can enjoy 4k content instead of having to wait for the videos to buffer on YouTube or other sites, but then again it requires quite an expensive card in your machine to run. Hopefully we can get this feature available as a plugin much like RTX Studio.

AI And it’s Implications

AI is here to stay, but does it have to be? Lately one of main talking points I’ve been seeing from people both on Twitter and off regarding AI is the implications in both the philosophical as well the ethical perspectives. Seeing what is being created has been interesting but is leading people to believe that it’s going to solve everything which is more frightening than the technology itself. What’s more interesting is how AI can be utilized by governments to regulate speech online (and more). There really isn’t “a side” to this, but rather we should really think about what the technology means for the future and if it’s the path humanity should be going down. While it’s cool to make funny pictures or generate tweets in the style of Mark Twain the real thing to think about is what that will affect years from now in regards to what people trust and what people will believe.

I'm speechless. Not peer-reviewed yet but a submitted paper. The 'presented images' were shown to a group of humans. The 'reconstructed images' were the result of an fMRI output to Stable Diffusion. In other words, #stablediffusion literally read people's minds. Source 👇

The suppression and censorship of artificial intelligence unites left and right under the same technocratic banner of Corporate Realism. The attempt to reduce 'reality' to a single stream of safe information and acceptable views governed by the info-elite.

OpenAI's leaked Foundry pricing says a lot – if you know how to read it – about GPT4, The Great Implementation, a move from Generative to Productive AI, OpenAI's safety & growth strategies, and the future of work. Another AI-obsessive megathread on what to expect in 2023 🧵

We sold Unrealme! Why? It was fun to play with AI but we didn't have a long term vision, and we didn't know how to market it. The buyer loved unrealme, I'm sure it is in good hands. 1/2
